Olympians and Birthplace Political Ideology
Using birthplace data from more than 550 U.S. Rio athletes and political ideology information from a Pew survey, we examined the relationship between political ideology and summer athlete production. States with overall liberal and moderate political leaning individuals produced more summer Olympians than did states with conservative voters. That is to say that we discovered a negative correlation between states with conservative beliefs and the number of summer athletes produces per 1 million state citizens. A positive relationship was found for states with more moderate and liberal political beliefs.
